Women’s Café
The Women’s Café is a community-based space where women from partner factories and other sectors gather to address their daily challenges. They receive training on various social issues, including menstrual hygiene and gender-based violence. The café promotes skill enhancement, motivation, and learning, serving as a platform for women to discuss their problems, gain knowledge, and receive training. It also offers recreational activities for adolescent girls and working women. The café maintains a referral linkage with health service providers and promotes the use of sanitary napkins with proper disposal systems. The goal is to ensure health, support working mothers, and empower women through awareness and support.
Women’s Café, a community-based space where women from partner factories and other sectors can come together to discuss their daily challenges related to work, family, and personal life. At the café, women will receive training on various social issues, including menstrual hygiene, access to affordable sanitary napkins, gender-based violence, Covid-19 hygiene practices, financial literacy, savings, and support for those affected by unemployment due to Covid-19.
The Women’s Café serves as a platform for skill enhancement, motivation, and learning. After work, female workers can gather to share their problems, exchange ideas, receive various training sessions, and gain knowledge about health, safety, family, and career. If needed, the café can also serve as a learning center for adolescents, providing them with training opportunities. Women’s café members will act as peer educators, disseminating information on different issues to their peers in the workplace and community.
In addition to its social and educational aspects, the Women’s Café also offers recreational activities. Adolescent girls and working women can enjoy their leisure time by watching TV and playing games like Carrom, Ludo, and Chess at the café.
The café maintains a referral linkage with health service providers. In the past, it has partnered with government service providers to offer satellite medical services, giving women access to improved family planning methods, nutritional health suggestions, and support for family and child nutrition.
Promoting the use of sanitary napkins with a proper disposal system is another important initiative at the Women’s Café. Phulki, in collaboration with its development partners, identifies the community’s need and demand for sanitary napkins and works to improve the supply and demand mechanism. Additionally, the program explores cost-effective and cost-sharing methods to familiarize better health practices. The aim is to ensure proper health and hygiene practices within the community, support mothers in returning to work, and empower women through awareness training, linkages, and support for working women and girls.
